Design "American Cars Inc.":

This site uses a two-column layout with alphatransparent graphics and is using the menufunctionality to display lower level menus in separate boxes.
This is different from the main page, where menus are cascading.
Even the top-level menu graphics are partially transparent whic is pointed out by using other images below them. This makes the menus appearing to float above the site.
Within the dsign we have made sure that only colors are used that represent the Star Spangled Banner.
Design "Bodega Sevilla":

This example of a possible design also makes use of two columns.
Alphatransparent graphics are used rarely and only for making the site look a little better.
The menus don't even use any graphics but the small dancer that is indicating wether the current menuentry is active or not. The red bars that make the spanish effect are made using the border-property to achive the look of the spanish national flag.
Also these colors are used within the entire page to make an identity for the page that fits to what it has to say.
The menu has been moved to the right and is cascading.
Design "City Cyclists":

A fictive bicycle courier-service in column-free design.
Using this type of layout makes the entire width of the brwoser-window available for content. The unusual form makes the site different from others, making it rememberable for your visitors.
Just the logo is using alphatransparency, the ohter objects are made pretty simple by design - just two colors and one border-color are used.
The main navigation makes use of a horizntal JavaScript menu while the service menu behaves normally and is displayed vertically using the upper right corner.
